About Us

The Calgary Alliance for the Common Good is a non-partisan and non-profit alliance of congregations, unions, school and community groups in Calgary representing more than 35,000 people.  These organizations came together to form the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good in order to organize the power of our communities to shape a just and compassionate city.

The mission of the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good is:

  • To create a broad-based shared organization that is as diverse as Calgary, building relationships among organizations and people from the various community, ethnic, non-profit, labour, and religious groups.
  • To strengthen our member organizations and their leaders to develop a healthy and effective civic life.
  • To use the principles and techniques of community organizing to effectively address the real issues facing Calgarians and our member organizations.

The Calgary Alliance for the Common Good is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (www.industrialareasfoundation.org), the Industrial Areas Foundation Canada and part of the Industrial Areas Foundation North West Region (www.iafnw.org). Founded in 1940, the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) is the world's largest and longest-standing network of local faith and community-based organizations. The IAF unites affiliates in 65 cities in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Our affiliation with the IAF allows us to have world-class leadership training, ensures that we have the highest quality organizing practices through ongoing supervision and support, and allows us to take shared action on provincial, national and international issues. The Industrial Areas Foundation Canada is a charity that unites our Canadian Affiliates. Charitable donations can be made to the Industrial Areas Foundation and will be used to support our local educational and research work.
