Discernment Assembly 2024

We are holding a Discernment Assembly on Monday September 16th at 7pm at Scarboro United Church. All member institutions are requested to come with their Core Teams ready to vote on the broad campaign topics on which the Alliance will focus our work for the next couple of years.

The topics up for the vote will be coming from our grassroots members. Since May 2024, each of our 28 member institution has been conducting an internal listening campaign, asking individuals "What are the pressures and challenges you experience in your life right now?". Core Teams at each institution then take that information and determine what challenges are commonly experienced and bring those topics to the Calgary Alliance Discernment Committee. The Discernment Committee, comprised of members of the Strategy Team (which is comprised of representatives from our member institutions as well) will then have the big job of taking all the issues identified by our members and determining which 7 or 8 issues will go forward to be voted on at the Discernment Assembly. We will post these issues on large poster board around the room so each person has a chance to reflect and consider the common issues that have come up repeatedly from grassroots members.

Voting at the Discernment Assembly is not an anonymous process! Your vote is a sticky note with your name and phone number, indicating your personal willingness to support a particular campaign topic. We are looking forward to seeing leaders emerge from within communities at this event, as well as beginning the process of getting to work on the issues chosen.

Don't forget to RSVP! We look forward to seeing you there.
