Make it Happen, Calgary Police!
The Calgary Police Service must invest in the creation of Indigenous Liaison Officers in every district in the city. They have committed to making core investments in this act of reconciliation and must follow through for the betterment of the city.
- "... Chamberlain, a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, is the only Indigenous Liaison Officer for the Calgary Police."
- From the National Inquiry: "The following are the Calls for Justice issued by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls: (...) 9.4.ii. Specialized Indigenous policing units are to lead the services’ efforts in community liaison work, community relationship building, and community crime-prevention programs within and for Indigenous communities."
- Wapiski-Miskanahk wrote an oped, which was published in the Calgary Herald, detailing how "Calgary police need to expand the Indigenous Liaison Program."
