Foundations of Community Organizing: Institutional and Local Organizing

Community organizing provides a powerful set of tools and processes that unlock the potential of our organizations and local communities to build relationships, develop leaders, and address issues that matter to their members.

  • Join leaders from diverse member institutions to develop leadership skills that strengthen our local organizations, institutions, and communities.
  • Develop your institution's team of leaders and potential leaders by introducing them to how the practices and values of community organizing have been used to build stronger faith communities, labour unions, community associations and other community institutions.
  • Learn to:
    • Develop an analysis of relationships and power in your organization, workplace or community - so you can understand how to make things happen.
    • Reflect on your organization's purpose and its potential to make a difference in the lives of its members.
    • Conduct an effective one-on-one relational meeting- and how relationship building and listening open possibilities.
    • How the organizing cycle provides a process for taking action on what matters to your community.
    • How to identify leaders and potential leaders, and with them, new energy and life.
    • Establish a strategy for recruiting leaders and building a team in your own institution.
  • Understand how the Alliance is, and its current strategy can be a vehicle for your institutions to have an impact on what matters to your members.
