Green Line to Eau Claire advocacy successful!

Victory! In June of 2024 Calgary Alliance turned up our advocacy efforts regarding the Green Line, asking council to ensure the Green Line would get built to Eau Claire. We are pleased to say that council voted on July 30th, 2024 to ensure a revised Phase 1 would still go to Eau Claire, as a key part of our messaging was that the Green Line needs to be built so that it can eventually serve North Calgary. Had the downtown section been scrapped and the core of the line not built to go to Eau Claire, we despaired of whether this transit line would ever make it over the river.

Yes, we are also disappointed that the Green Line phase 1 was cut down to 6 stations. However, we don't want to lose sight of the fact that council voted to build the core of the Green Line now, to do the hardest part now, getting shovels in the ground and tackling the expensive part first (getting through downtown) so that future phases can more easily be built with future funding.

As news came out about that there would be scope revisioning for the project because of inflationary cost overruns, we wanted to ensure that council and the province remembered in their deliberations that the Green Line needs to eventually serve North Central Calgary and so as to not scrap elements of the project which would actually enable this further plan.
