Planning a Response to City Budget Cuts

We want to invite you to come to a meeting on Tuesday, June 18th at 7:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church - 16th Ave and 1st NW - to help us plan how we will respond to the city's planned budget cuts.

City council recently asked City Administrators to cut $60 M from the 2019 Budget and to report to Council in July. These cuts are big! A cut of $60 M in spending over 5 months (August to December) requires a reduction of $144 M annualized over a full year. (Because 7 months of full spending will have taken place, to get $60 M by December 31 means a real cut in services equivalent to $144 M over 12 months.)

This could have a profound impact not only on the seniors' program that the city promised to us to create but also the other priorities that you have helped us identify. Already the city's plan to develop a mental health and addictions strategy has largely been stopped because of these cuts.
