Volunteer - Tipi Harvest for Calgary Healing Tipi(s)

CALLOUT for VOLUNTEERS & DONATIONS

1st Tipi has been harvested, raised and gifted to Bear Clan Patrol Calgary, which now stands near Fort Calgary.

(Thanks to AIM, Crazy Indians Brotherhood "Alberta" <39> "Support", Sobercrew & multiple non-native volunteers from the city and surrounding area for all the help and donations.)

 

The 2nd Tipi will be going to Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society with our next harvest dates being:

  • Wednesday, July 7 - Mountain Harvest & Peg Cutting

  • Thursday, July 8 - Mountain Harvest & Peg Cutting

  • Friday, July 9 - Mountain Harvest & Sanding

  • Saturday, July 10 - Sanding, & BBQ

  • Sunday, July 11 - Sanding, transport poles to Calgary

Details ie; time(s) location(s), will be emailed to those who sign up

 

  • VOLUNTEERS MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL or have a ride available as the harvest location is 2hrs south of Calgary.

  • PLEASE BRING: water, work gloves, appropriate outdoor footwear/clothing, snacks/lunches, folding chairs, bug spray, sun-screen.

  • If volunteers have their own hatchets and knives please bring them.

 

OPPORTUNITY TO CAMP (priority given to vaccinated individuals/groups)

  • For those willing and able, volunteers are welcome to camp with us on the 8, 9 & 10.

Tipi Harvesting for Calgary Tipi(s) to Honor/Healing of the First Nations children & Residential school Survivors.

Fri. June 25: PEGS & BUTTONS HARVEST

5:00pm volunteers meet in Fort MacLeod at the Subway parking lot near Petro Canada Gas station. Group will travel to Smith residence, set up camp & begin harvesting pegs/buttons.
(Those wishing to camp please contact Garret C Smith directly)

Sat. June 26: FULL HARVEST DAY

8:30am volunteers meet in Pincher Creek at the Tim Hortons parking lot near Co-op Food Store. Group will travel to harvest site @Castle Falls.
2:00pm reconvene at the Tim Horton's parking lot. Meet additional volunteers then haul the poles to Smith residence for peeling/sanding.
6:00pm day ends. (Invite to camp, contact Garret C Smith directly)

Sun. Jun 27: FULL HARVEST DAY

This is a great opportunity for Calgarians and southern Albertans to learn the full the process of harvesting a traditional tipi while giving back to First Nations in the city.

ALL AGES & families are encouraged to sign up. This is a safe, fun, informative and bonding experience for everyone involved.

CAPACITY is LIMITED for each day.
