Alberta’s provincial referendum is scheduled for October 19, 2026, with questions that could shape our province’s future, including immigration, federal relations, and constitutional change.
The Calgary Alliance for the Common Good is launching the Vote for the Common Good campaign because we believe Alberta’s future should be built on belonging, fairness, dignity, and the common good of all.

Vote by Mail in Alberta’s 2026 Referendum
Alberta’s referendum will take place on Monday, October 19, 2026, but you don’t have to wait until Referendum Day to make your voice heard.
Applications to Vote by Mail, also known as a Special Ballot, are now open to all eligible Alberta electors. You do not need to provide a reason for requesting one.
Voting by mail offers greater flexibility if you expect to be travelling, working, facing transportation or mobility barriers, or simply prefer to complete your vote ahead of time. If you know someone who may have difficulty getting to a voting place, please share this information with them as well.
Important Dates
- Now: Applications to Vote by Mail are open.
- September 1: Special Ballot packages begin being mailed.
- September 21: Packages become available through electoral division Returning Offices.
- October 9: Last day to request a Special Ballot.
- October 16 at 5:00 p.m.: Completed packages sent by mail must be received by Elections Alberta.
- October 19: Referendum Day. Voting locations are open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
How to Apply
You can request a Special Ballot by:
- Completing the online application form
- Emailing [email protected]
- Contacting your electoral division’s Returning Office beginning September 21
When completing your Special Ballot, you will need to sign a declaration and include copies of accepted identification showing your name and address. Do not send original identification documents.
Apply as early as possible to allow enough time to receive, complete, and return your voting package.
