Ward 9 Candidate Responses

As part of our 2025 Calgary Municipal Election work, the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good invited candidates from each ward to meet with community members. Together, we asked questions that reflect the priorities of our members: good jobs, mental health, affordable housing, the environment, and truth and reconciliation.

On this page, you’ll find a summary of the responses from Ward 9 candidates. Click on each question below to view more details or scroll down to see all responses.

Ward 9 - Good Job Strategy

Will you work with us to develop a job strategy that limits contracting out of entry-level positions at the city and provides employment opportunities for youth and equity-seeking groups so that they can earn a fair living wage, develop workplace skills and gain job experience?

Answer

Harrison M. Clark: Yes - I would like to review our existing student work programs at the City of Calgary, and I would look to expand access. I believe the City of Calgary has an opportunity to better support youth employment and work experience in our city.

Ward 9 - Mental Health

Will you work with us to further develop and fund a community-based, preventative mental health strategy?  What will you prioritize in developing this strategy?

Answer

Harrison M. Clark: Yes - After campaigning for a year, I can see that it would be wise for me to initiate some round table discussions in our Ward 9 communities. To bring those organizations and individuals who are working on the front lines in our neighbourhoods together. Let's work to identify and reenforce any crossover efforts being made. This would also be an appropriate way to discuss how these efforts are funded by the City, if it's working, and any adjustments that might need to be made to better support this important work.

Ward 9 Affordable Housing

Will you work with us to address the affordable housing crisis and implement Calgary’s Housing Strategy? How will you work with us to expand and better coordinate rent supports for renters in crisis? How will you ensure that sufficient land is made available for affordable housing and is zoned appropriately before being released?

Answer

Harrison M. Clark: Yes -

I have put forward a proposal in my strategic plan to create a city made, modern renters tool kit. This of course would be in partnership with our renter advocate groups. I think the city should do a better job of acknowledging that many of our citizens are renters and that we have a responsibility to support and protect them.

I have put forward two proposals in my strategic plan. More efforts need to be made to prioritize the permits and land acquisitions of the NFP organizations who specialize in building affordable housing. I would like to revisit our existing strategy and make sure we are doing everything we can to provide an efficient and effective process.

Secondly, in Ward 9 specifically, I would like to review our legacy general industrial lands - of which we have acres and acres - on the borders of Ogden, Inglewood, Ramsay and Dover. Appropriate land use changes here could allow us to expand the residential footprint of these historic neighbourhoods.

Ward 9: Environment

Will you work with us to implement the Calgary Climate Strategy and ensure that housing and infrastructure in our city are climate resilient and energy efficient? How will you achieve this?

Answer

Harrison M. Clark: Yes - Some of the programs made available include hail resistant roofing, heat pumps and solar rebates. Many of these have either ended or are fully subscribed. I would like to revisit this concept and explore more options to expand access. This might include a payment plan embedded in your property tax bill - if you decide you would like to purchase a climate positive upgrade for your home or property.

I believe we should expand our rain water conservation and rain barrel programs. I'd like to see water conservation become a priority for our city.

Ward 9: Truth and Reconcilation

Will you work with the Indigenous led, Indigenous Gathering Place Board to advance the creation of an indigenous led, indigenous gathering place in Calgary? How will you work to advance this and overcome the current roadblocks that have delayed this project?

Answer

Harrison M. Clark: Yes -

I think the best answer to this question at this time, is by being a supportive and active ally to our indigenous communities working towards seeing this come to be. I believe it is an important step for us to take on the path of reconciliation.

Ward 9: Collaborative Relationships
