Housing Campaign

Our city is in crisis. Did you know that the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation has highlighted that the lowest incomes in Calgary can only truly afford 5% of housing in the city? And the University of Calgary’s residences team has been flooded by over 5,000 applications for housing?

Re-Organizing our Shared Alliance

Every act of organizing is reorganizing. Five years after engaging with our communities since our founding assembly, and uplifting the issues that affect all Calgarians, we're working together from our different faiths, organizations, movements and teams to bring together a focused conversation on what's next.

The Environment team invites us to imagine a brighter climate future. The Environment team, led by our member organization, the Climate Hub, is asking that the City of Calgary build for not just stimulus but substantive, funded climate action for the betterment of our communities.

We Build Leaders

“I went to the training and discovered practical ways that I can build relationships and take action to bring about change in our city.”

Learn About Leadership Training

The Calgary Alliance for the Common Good is everyday people taking powerful action together for the common good.

We develop the diverse voices of our community, building relationships across religious, racial, class, and neighborhood lines.

Then we knit them together one by one to build the power to make the positive changes they want to see in our community, making our shared home a better place to live and thrive.

See What Makes Us Different

We don’t organize for justice and social change FOR people. We organize for justice and social change WITH people.

Housing Affordability Task Force Recommendations Pass | 12-3!

We are proud to share with you that city council passed the Housing Affordability Task Force recommendations over the weekend in an emergency meeting.

And the recommendations passed with a resounding 12-3 vote, well beyond expectations and sending a clear message that this council is moving forward on making substantive changes in our city's rules and procedures to create more housing.

The recommendation on alterations to zoning also survived, meaning that council will move forward with exploring changes to zoning so that we can build communities that are multi-generational and that thrive. The discussions on some of the more controversial policies, such as a discussion on rent controls, changes or reductions to parking minimums, and other items, also survived the amendment process.

What's Next?: Now councillors, administration and our civil servants will work together towards building several packages of proposals, and will return to council with those changes to bylaws, administrative procedures and new modes of including Calgarians into new housing in their communities. Please stay tuned and subscribed to our newsletter as we track these policies at council.
